The spring roll dates back too many centuries ago and first started to make its appearances as a flat pancake that was then filled with all different kinds of savoury ingredients. The best restaurant in Zetland will give you a brief history on spring rolls.

It all started in the Tang Dynasty, where chefs would make a thin pancake with flour at the ‘beginning of spring’ and would then be decorated and filled with fruits and vegetables.

If we move forward in time a little to the Ming and Qing Dynasties (1367 – 1911) where the development of crockery skills became most advance, cook rolled the traditional pancakes and turned them into Spring Rolls. These delicacies where not only liked by common folk, but was also praised and served during the imperial feast. The Spring Roll became one of the nine main pastries served at the feasts.
