The Dong Zhi festival is also known as the Winter Solstice Festival and is determined by observing movements of the sun with a sundial as early as about 2,500 years ago. The festival falls on December 21st according to the Gregorian calendar, by which you can always visit our Zetland restaurant to celebrate the festival!

After the Winter Solstice, the days get longer and the Chinese believed that “yang” – positive things would get stronger and stronger as well. So they celebrate this festival and on this day, people eat glutinous balls with different fillings called “Tang Yuan”.
